He stood up
Mind made
Wanting to let go
To follow his whims
He'd waited too long
Dreamed too often
Waking up to another dreary day
But today, now, it was different
He was confident
Sure as the sun rising
He smiled, he joked
But his heart hammered
Palms were sweaty
He wondered once again
But no,
There was no room for doubt
He knew
The time was right
Now or never it was
He looked at the screen
The two scary words
They exhilarated him
Freed him
Jauntily he strode
To the glass cabin
Paper in hand
My Resignation
Typed in bold
He was ready
It was the next step
The step to his world
To his wishes
To his vocation
Suddenly his phone rang
A halt to his step
He looked at the screen
Frowning
An unknown number
It wouldn't be important
Couldn't be important
Fingers hovered
Habit won
He answered
"Mr. ABC?
I'd like to discuss
A job opportunity"
What? No
Not now
He laughed.
He smirked
"But wait.
We're offering... "
The smile slipped
Greed called
Confidence questioned
Doubt arose
Hand on the silver knob
He entered quietly
"I'm quitting sir"
"Oh. So you decided.
To follow your dream
To be a self boss"
Eyes downcast
A whisper escaped
"No. I got a new offer.
I'll be VP of XYZ.
And there's still time.
It's all but a dream.
I still have life.
I still have life."
