From Yesterday to Tomorrow

Come, come to me on this sultry summer day,
Rising over the ebb and fall, waves and sand as they play,
Overwhelm me, charm me, steal my heart again...

Silently the tears fall, searing love, awakening pain,
Sealed by fate unknown, thoughts and hopes make merry in the rain,
Walk with me, hold my hand, give me my smile again...

Only for a minute look at me, let your lips call my name,
Reach out to me, hold me close, talking to me, tug my arm for a new game,
Dear son, open your eyes, call me a 'mother' just once again ...

For An Adult That I Now Am!

I stood in front of the balloon guy,
Smiling, giggling at the random shades,
I stretched my hand for the bright blue one
Eager to bounce it playfully
“For your son madam? Or for your li’l sister maybe”
He asked me
Shattering all my dreams
Smile now dejected I walked away
Grown-ups can’t play with balloons is it?

I looked transfixed at the bubbles around
Fingers playfully trying to catch a few
To not let them burst
To cocoon me in their rhapsody
“C’mon! How small a girl are you still?”
My momma’s exasperated voice
Dragged me back
I entered the wedding hall grace and splendor
Dreams and bubbles not for adults is it?

I looked and looked at the pretty green bottle
And stood transfixed by the yellow shade
Why can’t I get both free, I wondered
Maggi makers are miserly
“Really? Are you still confused about that ‘water-bottle’?”
My dad’s harsh voice
Grated my feelings
I just shrugged and blindly picked one
Elders don’t care much about free stuff colours is it?

I tried to stick my tongue out at the snobby guest
And splash water on the unsuspecting thing
Can I hide her purse away
And scream BOO as she turned the corner…
“What are you 4? Thinking such absurd things!”
My husband reprimanded me
As in a burst I confided to him
I smiled politely and offered some sweets
Adults behave maturely isn’t it?

I killed my joys,
I killed my dreams,
For with age is supposed to come maturity,
Letting go, compromising
Following the unwritten laws
Kill the heart
It’s the mind that rules
Walking the path of rationality
For the adult that I now am!

Revenge

She lay in wait
The wounded slut
Yellowed eyes
Parched thirsty fangs
A trickle of blood seeped through her heart
She licked her wounds
Carried the grief
Her mind a whirl
Plotting agonies
For the love of a slow, torturous death
Weeks went by
And years grew old
Flowers withered
Trees bent and crooked
But the tiger in her lair sat quiet and still
Knowing, trusting, hoping
She hurried not
As she knew one day
Paths would cross again
At last the enemies stood face to face
One withered and
Other bent and low
She lashed at him
He shot her back
From sun to stars the battle raged on
He lay there wounded
Broken and clawed
No will, no hope
Nor strength of heart
He begged and cried and prayed for death
She raised her paw
She took a strike
Across this cheek
A new scar
And then she turned on her heels and walked away…
She let him live
A shattered life
A broken spirit
She let him live
She lay in peace, with the gift of life, her revenge complete.

The Journey

As I walked down the road,
I stumbled and fell,
I cried, I cursed
Then stood up and went

As I walked down the road,
A bramble cut me through
I yelled, I ranted
Then pricked it out and ran

As I walked down the road,
A kick flattened me on the ground
I swore, I plotted
Then up the stairs I trotted

As I walked down the road
I slipped on the cobbled stone
The hand went out, held steadfast
Then I continued my journey slow…

One Night Stand

He quietly looked around
Darkness stilled
The gentle rustle,
A soft whisper
The wind
As it softly whistled,
Fueling the desire in his
Heart...

He stood and gazed,
Woods all around
A solitary haven,
No soul to disturb,
No soul to hear
Just unquenched desire
Law raw, hands
Trembling...

A sudden glint
Flash of eyes
Lust gathered his
Tormented mind,
Wish to own,
Wish to touch
Softly treading ahead,
Footprints...

Just a crack
To break the dawn
thirst un-quenched
Blood-shot eyes,
Shout of joy
Beautiful yellow
As he caressed,
She lay there stiff and
Cold...

They all came
Loud fanfare,
"Save her. Save her!"
They medal they carried,
Her limp body,
A stuffed toy now
Gracing the museums
The generations call her
'Tiger'...

The Eyes

She sat and looked
The child went
running past
Flying down the stairs
A step skipped
Crash... Bang...
A bucketful of tears
She sat and looked...

She sat and looked
The honeymooners back home
baggage shed
Taps running, the cooker whistle
Potatoes fried
Sizzle... Ouch...
The tiffin all packed
She sat and looked...

She sat and looked
The party on
in full swing
Candles lit, claps resound
Slices shared
Ripp... Crunch...
Piles of gifts sorted
She sat and looked...

She sat and looked
Houses built
and buildings grazed
As generations came and went
Blink... Blink...
Head once cocked aside
She sat and looked...

Is It Something?

Is it saying something
That when my child says 'Arms'
I see guns and missiles
Crossing my crazed mind?

Is it saying something
That the sign 'Keep Off The Grass'
Reminds me of dark nights
And heights of unadulterated Ecstasy?

Is it saying something
That an 'Apple' on the street
Is not the luscious fruit
But music blaring my ears?

Is it saying something
As I look around
I know not what to think...
And yet I speak. And yet we speak.

The Conf Room

They sat around the table
Brains running round and round,
Words flowing, synonyms lost,
As debates raged on and on...

Pages laid waste,
Ink almost running dry
No cellphones blared
And laptops almost died...

The desk groaned
Chairs squeaked and squirmed,
Windows fluttered
Lights almost shutting off...

Scribbles and Sketches,
Stories and poems formed,
The company slept on and on
As here an artist was born..

THE DARK NIGHT

The shrillness searing me,
waves running over, no sound
a black velvet over my soul,
deepening the lust...

For the want of red,
fangs holy bared
a soothing hoot,
making flesh tingle...

Spineless stumps,
comforting rustle
footsteps unheard,
screams singing around...

A stumble, eerie laugh,
innocent mind, snared by craft
Cacklin' hats, roving tail,
golden blood into the pail...

Fear sustainance,
a magic charm,
to survive in this deadland,
create a black black heart......

THE PEPSI CAN

Bubbles rising

Droplets slowly trickling down

A thirst quenched

The straw partly chewed

Satisfaction

Pleasing

Silent joy

The liquid though is hurt

A woman crying in pain

Forced, squeezed

Put through hell

For someones selfish gain

Thirst quenched

But the straw never whole again

Satisfaction

But at what cost??

WELCOME

You run away from her vile claws,
But her hypnotic gaze drags you closer.
The fresh cheese as a rat slowly gnaws
boring holes in the soul, enlightening it.

Screams follow as her teeth sink into you,
She tastes the fresh blood of innocent minds,
Cries of glee surround the new birth;
Into independence, slowly, as the chains further bind..

You are now one with them,
Your mother often berating you,
As greens she stitches into your shirts hem
"Use it when the law gets tough"..

The father you looked up to all your life
slowly climbs into this craze,
Inspiring you, his fastiduous son,
Pushing you deeper into the haze..

"Welcome, Welcome!", come the joyous shrieks,
"You are now our own.
Forget your past. The honest are weak."
Welcome to the world..

FINGERS

We love you
We care
Its for YOUR best
WE know.

The fingers a toddler held,
support, strength, guidance;
Fingers always show the way,
"I love these fingers", toddler.

We love you
We care
Its for YOUR best
WE know.

The fingers now grow up,
Still support, strength, guidance;
Fingers now slowly mould,
"Fingers are pretty strict", child.

We love you
We care
Its for YOUR best
WE know.

The fingers now grown
Support, strength & guidance??
Fingers now only accusations,
"Fingers only interfere", youth.

We love you
We care
Its for YOUR best
WE know.

You love me you say,
Then why conditions on 'Unconditional Love'?
You say you care,
Then why most waters due to you shed??
You say its for YOUR best,
Then why doesn't best ever give joy??
Best & Worst both antonyms,
Yet in the dictionary of my life they mean the same..
WE know
But so does ME
After all its my life I'm living,
Or is it??

We love you
We care
Its for YOUR best
WE know.

WALLS

As the saying goes 'If walls could speak'
What tales would they tell of laughter & shrieks.
But stoic they stand tall & majestic
Proud of their silence, their honour still innocent.
The soul so pure, so true, so good
Always tells a man what he should
The body a wall, a barrier so strong,
No soul today can reach the heart.
Covered with soot & grime & dust
the modern soul trembles covered in rust..
Walls they both are, walls to protect,
But one knows its duty, the body just forgets..
The helpless soul today a mere spectator
As walls speak the body talks & jeers
Buried deep, inside the deepest grave,
a cry echoes lost to the shambles..

WRITER

A madness surrounding the sane,
questioning sanity.
A fear beheld in the minds,
numbing thoughts
The answer to puzzles lies within
the puzzle itself.
clues though lead it all astray,
confusion reigns.
Ideas running through within,
a cacophony.
The lips spit vile black serpents,
belying everything.
The pen mightier than the sword,
upholds honour.
The lunatics only knowledge,
imparting wisdom.
it's string to my soul tightly bond,
Liberates me.

INTO FOREVER

A time together so rare
The earth and sea
A horizon finally touched, seen & felt
Numbnes clouding all pain and joy...
Let us go out then
you and I
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherised on a table
The swallows now homeward bound
lost amidst a new dusk
Chirps of pity a fine music to our ears,
we make merry beneath the boughs....

Away from the happy world
lost in our dreams
You and I dry up every ocea,
Quenching our thirst
Before the tigers can find us here
Eaten by our lust...
Flee, flee to the hinterland
Iron-grip our fear
The night lost out on the magical land
Slipping into the forever
surrender ourselves into the unknown
Eyes closed, smiles frozen atlast.....

BLACK

Brave are the nights under the stars,
guided by those lost lights;
mind an abyss so dark so deep
fear penetrating shallow hearts
love a bond so untrue so fickle
lovers entwined by jealousy
pure of black a hate cherished
untouched, unblemished into eternity...

red of blood, fairy-dust
magic from the hinterland
clay to dust dust to clay
charred is everything inside
essences lost lust newfound
reborn into a brevity.....
