The Living Dead

Sometimes life is nothing but a scar,
We smile, we laugh but its all a farce
The painted red of a jokers lips,
The tainted yellow sunshine drips
Eyes so dry, it hurts to see
A mind that refuses to be free
Memories and thoughts all that remain
Letters spoken, words unheard
We trudge along hopeless, lost
The living dead, a heart covered in frost
Pain and hurt we know not too
A numb feeling, loss, nothing new
Days and nights now as one
A wisp remained, a human undone.

Have you heard...?

Have you heard of that pretty land?
Where colours abound
Where elder's feet touched till date
Joys and unity define
A country pretty as mine!

Where little Tendulkars rule the floor
Cars practising moon walk on the road
And sacred cows propagate democracy
Chewing plastic with renewed ferocity
Oh, I love my India!

Where roadside food tops the chart
Sevpuri and Panipuri devoured with a heart
And Kishore da is the music God
Making love-sick souls smile and humm
Oh, I love my India!

Where lamps lit in all homes in Diwali
Galli-galli a Mecca during Eid
And kids love Santa Claus
As much as they love Chota Bheem
Oh, I love my India!

Where elephants revered and stones worshiped
Temples haunt every little turn
And a wonder we gave the world
Taj, resplendent, site of beauty
Oh, I love my India!

Where engineers and doctors all dream to be
MBA is every mother's dream
And skyscrapers and slums stand side by side
Tall and short, defying death and gravity
Oh, I love my India!

Where snake charmers too many exist no more
But charmers breed, slick of tongue
And Babas and Fakirs still rule the roost
Pills black magic, science a blasphemy
Oh, I love my India!

Once Land of the Mahabharata and Ramayana
Congress and BJP today we live to see
And Tagore, Tukaram wrapped in cloth
Saas-bahu sagas enjoyed with tea
Oh, I love my India!

Where love to dream and eat and sleep
Population explosion almost an identity
And let our brains rule the world
Living a life of hidden sanctity
Oh, I love my India!

Have you heard of that land?
Where corrupt rule and honest cry,
Like every other land, though different,
People here too live and die
But oh, I love my India!
